Alhambra: Christmas cards

After the four days break our students, beside working in the new geometry unit ( Similarity), they have been working on creating Christmas cards. This cards will be handed in to the people living at the elderly residence, here at Órgiva.
In class we have been doing virtual visits to the Alhambra in order to show students all different Geometry elements that can be seen at the palace.
We have focused on Mosaics. Students have learnt how to geometrically construct two mosaics: " El hueso " and " la pajarita".
Most of the them created their cards based on one of these two mosaics, however some students created cards inspired by some geometry elements than can be seen at the Alhambra.
They really enjoyed creating the cards:
Here we can see some of the beautiful cards they have created.

Pythagoream Theorem
11/30/2020
Hello everyone.
Our students in 2ºA, 2ªB and 2ºC have just finished with the unit related to the Pythagoream Theorem and right triangles.
First of all we have seen different proofs of the this important theorem and then, we have applied it to find unknown sides length in right triangles.
Once the students had mastered finding unknown length sides in right triangles we moved into solving area and perimeter word problems and real life word problems.
Here are some of the problems we have been solving:

Geometry Dictionary
10/28/2020
Hello Everyone.
Our students have started the Geometry Units. During the first two weeks we will be learning about basic geometry concepts that could not be taught last year because of the pandemic. We will learn about points, lines, angles and different shapes. Since we have in this unit a very extensive vocabulary, students will create a visual dictionary for each geometry concept view during the unit.
We will be posting here some of then in the future.

Hello everyone.
Welcome to the 2020/2021 school year!!
After one weeks of getting to know activities , rules and procedures we have started our first unit about statistics. During this month of October we will study quantitative ways to summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context and the shape of the distribution. Students will learn to find and interpret measures of center like mean, median and mode and measures of variability like Range, Interquartile Range and MAD.
In addition to this we will be creating different graphical displays for data distribution such as dot plots, Histograms, bar graphs, circle graphs and Box plots.
Because of Covid/19 safety measures we will not be able to do the project planned for this unit. This project is a big survey where our students, in collaboration with the counselor department and the administration, will create some questions about a specific topic for then, analyze the data with all they have learnt in this units.
